Councils
Local councils form the backbone of the public face of National Tree Day, with many councils being involved for over a decade. National Tree Day is a great day to engage the community in local conservation issues, showcase your council's achievements in this area and have lots of fun!
"A beautiful day, everyone was very positive and a wide range of community involvement, a great sense of achievement as they completed their goal. Overall feedback was very positive"
Not sure where to start? Planet Ark has developed a comprehensive Council Getting Started Guide to help you organise a site and promote your event throughout businesses, schools and the local community (download from links below). We want to help you make the experience fun and worthwhile so if you need more information, feel free to call the National Tree Day Hotline on 1300 88 5000.
"Council used (National Tree Day) as an opportunity to support one of the local Landcare groups who contribute greatly to regeneration in the Shire, including on Council land. It also brought different sections of Council together to work on site, assisting networks across Council"
For those of you who have already shared in the history of Tree Day, we've put together a Council Activity Guide (download from links below) with ideas gathered from councils across Australia.
What to do next:
-
If you haven't run a National Tree Day activity before, read our step by step manual to National Tree Day by downloading it using the link below.
To get involved in National Tree Day, you're not restricted to the one day. We are aware that climate conditions do not always allow for major plantings to occur on the same day around Australia. Planet Ark has therefore arranged volunteer insurance coverage all year round to enable planting at a time that suits your environment and community.
-
For inspiration and ideas, read our National Tree Day stories or download our Activity guide using the link below. We also have a number of templates for games for big and little kids.
-
When you decide to go ahead, click here to register your site. We will send you a registration pack but you can also download posters and all other paperwork here. By registering your site, it will appear in the list of public sites on the Tree Day website. When you register you will receive:
- Posters to promote National Tree Day
- Results form
- Reply paid envelope
- Accident/Incident form
- Volunteer registration forms
- "This is a National Tree Day Site" sign
Remember, National Tree Day can be about more than planting trees. If your community needs a vegetable garden or groundcover, a previously planted site needs weeding and maintaining, or you would like to hold a native plant giveaway for people to beautify and attract wildlife to their backyards, register your activity with us as well.
